NEW ALBUM RELEASED
” For Dylan, forever ago “
The astonishing debut album from Platitudes
“This is an album that does not seek easy resolution. It offers instead an honest and deeply human portrait of grief in all its complexity.” Pitch Perfect
“For Dylan, Forever Ago doesn’t try to hide behind metaphor or studio sheen. It’s an album that tells the truth, even when it hurts, and in doing so, becomes something truly rare.”
Edgar Allan Poets

ABOUT US
Platitudes were forged in the wake of the death of Ben’s 18 year old son, Dylan in 2019. Throughout lockdown, in an attempt to help him deal with his grief, Ben wrote songs and poems exploring his emotions, nine of which became their debut album: For Dylan, Forever Ago.
Ben’s bandmates are long-time collaborator Alasdair Thompson, who knew Dylan since birth and was also turning to music to try to understand what had happened, and Alison Bennet, a classical guitarist, flautist and singer.
Learning To Live Again
Learning To Live Again is a song about trying to move on, to participate in life again, to allow myself to feel positive emotions and risk being vulnerable again.
The melody is taken from a beautiful piece by Tahitian guitarist Michel Poroi called ‘Hotu’. Whilst on holiday in Tahiti, we met with Michel who was moved to learn that without knowing it, my lyrics had mirrored the meaning behind his melody – that of rebirth and living again. ‘Hotu’ is the name of a local seed that can cross oceans to start new life on distant shores.
